Natural Gas Generators

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe oilfield is an amazing place. There is something special about the dusty expanse where the only movement is a few jackrabbits and the lonely pumpjack. No matter if you are in North Dakota, Texas, or offshore in the Gulf, there is an abundance of open space in every direction. The people who work out here are a special breed. There are early mornings, late nights, brutal blizzards, and blast-furnace afternoons. The oil patch can be unforgiving, unforgiving and dangerous. There are odorless, invisible gasses that will kill you on the spot, there are sleepy truck drivers on washboard roads, there are (mostly) no safety nets. It is not a place for someone who has a problem with a little risk. Hard Hat Resume But sometimes the sun shines just right through the drill pipe at dusk or the rig lights glow, UFO like, in the valley on the dark of the moon. The oilfield can be truly beautiful despite the brutality of the conditions. There is a sense of pride in being “out there” and surviving. There are many

Generator Techs Award

Happy Birthday America!

Reading Time: 3 minutesTwo hundred and fifty years. What is Mesa doing to commemorate this historic anniversary? For one, we will soon throw the doors open to our brand-new manufacturing, warehousing, and corporate facilities in Evansville, Wyoming. Okay, so it is purely by coincidence and the fact that our contractor, Caspar Building Systems, is wrapping up construction early. (Who does that? Thank you Caspar!) While it is not open to the public, it will be the spawn point for hundreds of new natural gas generators and GX22 engines (among other, secret engines yet to be released!) As of this printing, the actual move-in-date is dependent on the permitting process and various inspections that need to occur prior to occupancy. Post-occupancy paperwork, the building will be home to our natural gas generator manufacturing, GX22 engine assembly, and much more. One idea floated around the marketing table to commemorate the occasion was to place a time capsule in the corner of the building. Only to be opened in one hundred years or when our COO Fred Fichtner retires, whichever comes first. One thing is for

Promoting Safety from Within

Reading Time: 3 minutesThere was an incident in the office this morning. One of our fellow employees dropped a taquito off the roller grill we had installed in the marketing department. (What can I say, the microwaves are busy at lunch and those rolled hotdogs just make Tuesdays better.) She hit her head on the corner of the desk and dropped to the floor. There is a large military presence in the corporate office, and we have many individuals trained in first aid. The situation was handled quickly and efficiently by professionals. Her condition was assessed; she was given the “all clear” to return to work and an official incident report was filed. Our coworker survived with a little bump on the head and finished her taquito without further incident.   While this may seem like an exaggeration, (okay, to be fair we don’t really have a roller grill, and the incident was entirely made up) a culture of safety means following company policy for reportable incidents. As small as the incident might seem, there are potential lessons to be learned from even

What Safety Means to Mesa

Reading Time: 3 minutesConsistency is a rare thing in business. One of the challenges modern companies face is maintaining a positive culture. Our founders believed that through consistency and shared values it is possible to preserve the dynamic culture they originally intended. When the organization began, they decided to build it on three metaphorical pillars: safety, quality, and productivity. These three concepts form the base of what Mesa was formed on and will continue to be in the future.   At Mesa we take great pride in hiring those that share our values and presently we have well over 900 like-minded individuals. We are all working together to build the best natural gas generators on the market. How do we do that? Our engineers design components, our assembly teams build them, and our maintenance teams provide valuable support for rental and customer units. It is the people within Mesa that are responsible for innovation and that is why safety is the first of our three pillars. We have a responsibility to our employees to actively practice a non-negotiable culture of safety. Accountability If

What do we do at Mesa Power Solutions?

Reading Time: 3 minutesBack in the early 2000’s there was a moment in time that gave birth to a horrible idea, speed dating. Now, speed dating consists of a room, (or bowling alley) with tables lined up and chairs facing one another. The idea is that the participants rotate though the tables spending a few minutes getting to know each other. Some of these horror shows had a structured group of questions to choose from and some were entirely spontaneous. I am not entirely sure if these types of events still occur, but for the sake of future generations, I hope they are gone forever. It did get me thinking however, if Mesa was at a speed dating event, what would we say? First of all, we would wear a sick pair of loose-fitting jeans splashed liberally with some Cool Water cologne, maybe a hooded T-shirt with some logos and an upside-down visor with frosted tips, yeah. “I Want it That Way” playing in the background. I can already feel the vibe, so kick back and get comfortable, because I am about to

Hand Built Generators, Hot and Fresh

Reading Time: 2 minutes(Monday morning marketing meeting notes) Marketing Ideas: Artisanal Generators? Bespoke Engines? Gourmet Distribution Gear? Field to Table PowerCore? Hot Fresh Generators. Pure Gold. Adjectives like that don’t seem to evoke the same “enchantment” for natural gas generators as they do with sourdough baguettes or bath bombs. A long time ago, most of the products used in the US were either handmade or made locally. With globalization, an unavoidable reality of designing and building complex products like generators is that it is necessary to utilize components manufactured outside of the USA. While we can’t claim our natural gas generators are 100% USA Made. We can claim that much of our generators are made in the USA, meaning there are various components that originate outside of our assembly facilities in Wyoming and Texas. Made in the USA? (But Only Certain Parts) So, what sets Mesa apart from any other generator company? Simple, our generators are built by hand right here. We take a huge pile of parts, some made locally, like our enclosures and some sourced in magical far-off lands (Korea) like

PowerCore and Those Colorful Bricks

Reading Time: 3 minutesRemember the joy of sifting through a colorful pile of LEGO®? Finding just the right color combination, shape, and configuration to match the design in your head. Undoubtedly, what you have in mind will need to be altered and manipulated to fit the narrative. That is one of the joys of building with LEGO. Today LEGO comes in structured sets containing comprehensive instructions, websites, and what resembles CAD drawings of the end product. Back in the early days we would dump out a pile and build from the mind – analog style. Kids like me would assemble projects like a “tower” or “wall” or “car”. (I was one of the kids who played on old playground equipment and may have hit their head one too many times.) The bottom line is building LEGO today is much more structured than it was when I was a kid, decidedly with much better results. I would be willing to bet that many engineers gained their interest in design from those colorful bricks.    Application Considerations Natural gas generators are a special kind of

Long Days in The Field

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe life of a field service technician is unique. There are early morning wakeups, late night callouts, and a roulette wheel of weather conditions. Tornadoes in Texas, blizzards in North Dakota, hurricane-force winds in Wyoming: these are just a few of the environmental challenges these warriors walk into on any given Tuesday. A little discomfort doesn’t faze this crew. They’re immune to everything except cold coffee. (Black coffee, 180° F, no more, no less) While most of us sit in a comfortable, climate-controlled environment, the field service division of Mesa Power Solutions is waiting in the wings. Always ready. One service call from making a difference. When a generator is running in a remote location (possibly hundreds of miles from the nearest donut shop) maintenance can be overlooked. “Overlooked” may be a polite way of saying neglected. When your operation depends on reliable, remote power, distance is an obstacle, no AI solution can erase. The only way to get the job done is to send a real human being. And not just any technician will do. Equipment Specific Training At
