What do we do at Mesa Power Solutions?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Back in the early 2000’s there was a moment in time that gave birth to a horrible idea, speed dating. Now, speed dating consists of a room, (or bowling alley) with tables lined up and chairs facing one another. The idea is that the participants rotate though the tables spending a few minutes getting to know each other. Some of these horror shows had a structured group of questions to choose from and some were entirely spontaneous. I am not entirely sure if these types of events still occur, but for the sake of future generations, I hope they are gone forever.

It did get me thinking however, if Mesa was at a speed dating event, what would we say?

First of all, we would wear a sick pair of loose-fitting jeans splashed liberally with some Cool Water cologne, maybe a hooded T-shirt with some logos and an upside-down visor with frosted tips, yeah. “I Want it That Way” playing in the background. I can already feel the vibe, so kick back and get comfortable, because I am about to drop some knowledge.

Where We Started

Mesa Solutions was founded in 2014 under BP Capital, under direct involvement of T. Boone Pickens Jr. For those who are unfamiliar with Mr. Pickens, he founded Mesa Petroleum, and our name is in homage to that company. Mesa thrived under the BP umbrella and although the first year proved to be difficult, the groundwork was set for the future.

In 2016 we made a commitment to innovate and produce our own generators. Previously, we had used generators from another company and through that experience, learned what we wanted to provide in a generator. By the following year, we had a solid design and began production. The units enjoyed great success in the oil and gas industry due to our superior two-hour service guarantee. In 2021, we relocated our R&D division to Loveland, Colorado, while assembly continued in Casper, Wyoming.

Our past was almost entirely focused on producing, servicing, and improving generators for rental use. Due to the response, at the start of the 2020’s Mesa made the commitment to produce units for private use. After all, for some clients it made better sense to buy generators outright as opposed to renting for years on end. This brings us up to date. And that is the “speed dating” version of how Mesa got to where we are today. Lots of missing information but you get the idea. If you are interested in more of our history, please visit our website, check out the video below, or contact us, we would be happy to fill you in!

So, what does Mesa do? Rental? Sales?

Mobile Generators

Our mobile generators are designed and assembled in house; we do not outsource generators or switch gear. (Check out our blog here for more information.) As far as generators go, we build a variety of equipment for specific uses. We have a rental fleet of generators for oil and gas deployment that primarily serves oil fields. These purpose-built generators are outfitted with specialized equipment to handle untreated gas present in the basins. The commercial and industrial generators we produce do not require the same safeguards as municipal hookups, so we do not include the same equipment; but both of our mobile generator configurations are available for rent as well as for purchase.

Stationary Generators

For those who need a natural gas power solution that stays put but still provides exceptional power, Mesa PowerCore is the answer. Designed for highly sensitive areas like behind hospitals, grocery stores, and municipal buildings. The PowerCore is tailor-made for locations that require more subdued and quiet operation standards. A six-unit block of PowerCore generators will produce 2.7 Megawatts with its own switchgear. All the fuel lines and wiring are secured underneath in a specially engineered tray to ensure that tampering is kept to a minimum.

To answer the question, we serve both the rental and sales markets.

We utilize our fleet of rental units to serve the needs of our customers in the oil field. However, we also provide many generators for commercial and industrial applications. So, no matter how large or small your power needs, Mesa has the ideal rental generator for you. While rentals may be where Mesa started, the equipment sales division is actively providing solutions to customers across many different markets. With products such as the PowerCore we can serve a local grocery store just as easily as a 40 MW data center.

There is a reason we include “solutions” in our name and that is because no matter the scale of your power needs, we have the solution. We do it all, rental, sales, and speed dating. Well maybe not speed dating, but we do have a field service tech with frosted tips. Does that count?
