Every Thursday I load up my cat in my bike basket and ride to the farmers market for some fresh produce. I use the afternoon to bake bok choy cookies for my drum circle, needless to say they are a big hit. This particular Thursday, I was riding home, a bike basket full of strange vegetables, when from behind, a diesel dually rolled past. The driver stomped the pedal and immediately engulfed me and my cat in a thick cloud of black smoke. Later my therapist informed me that “Rolling Coal” is what they call it, and diesels are not actually supposed to function like that.
Don’t Blame the Diesel
Many people see this type of behavior and assume that diesel engines are extremely dirty and spew black smoke at will. This is not the case, you may only notice the trucks egregiously spewing black smoke, but the majority of diesels on the road are operating properly with barely a puff from the exhaust pipe. In reality, modern diesel fuel is highly refined to make it burn clean, and with that advancement in technology, costs have exponentially increased over the past few decades. So, when a truck is “rolling coal” you are seeing a highly modified vehicle built for that purpose. What’s happening is the owner has increased the fuel supply to the point the engine can no longer burn it all and it exits in the form of thick, black smoke.
Advantage: Natural Gas
Now, I am not defending diesels, on the contrary, we are a natural gas generator company. Diesel and natural gas are very similar as far as performance and emissions. These refinements to diesel fuel make it extremely expensive and because the same fuel that runs a lifted F350 also runs your generator, the cost is passed on to you. While the diesel may be burning clean, you are paying the extra cost for a volatile fuel source. The volatility of diesel being not in its ability to blow clouds of smoke over farmers market bikers but the geopolitical arena in which it resides.
Unstable Diesel
I am not going to get into the performance differences between diesel and natural gas. That information has been beaten to death on the interwebs. What I want to address is supply chain. Right now, many parts of the world are unstable and there may be disruptions to the global supply chain, depending on the day of course. Currently diesel is more unstable than a reality show housewife.
Secure your Supply Chain
Where you get your fuel matters and which fuel you use matters.
Natural gas is likely to be produced right here in the USA, whereas diesel fuel is much more dependent on importation. For those of us who reside in this country, local production is a great way to protect your supply chain and ensure a reliable source. Natural gas generators are efficient, powerful, and clean burning but more importantly, cheaper to operate in the long run than diesel generators.
At Mesa Power Solutions we have a natural gas generator for your needs.
Emergency standby power? Yes, in fact we have generators in stock right now. (At time of printing)
Remote mobile power solutions? Of course, where would you like it?
Peak shaving? We got you.
Data center? We have a solution for that.
From industrial applications, municipal power, to oil and gas, Mesa Power Solutions is a platform that will work for your business, application, or demand.
With a wide variety of natural gas generators to choose from, we can help you stabilize your supply chain and reduce dependence on foreign diesel fuel. So, take a moment to check out our products, contact our sales department, and subscribe to the newsletter below. We would love to explain the benefits of our proprietary engine, USA built generators, and switchgear solutions.
And I suppose, if you really want it, I can give you my bok choy cookie recipe.
