“I’ll Be Back”: Why Generator Engine Reliability Matters Most

Reading Time: 2 minutesHave you ever seen The Terminator? You know, the one with Arnold Schwarzenegger as an unstoppable robot? In the movie, he delivers the famous quote, “I’ll be back,” while walking through walls, surviving explosions, and taking the term industrial accident to a whole new level. Mesa’s engines take that idea and run with it. Not the industrial accident part, of course. In fact, everything we do is designed to help prevent accidents before they happen. We’re talking about the persistence behind that famous line. No matter what challenges come their way, Mesa engines are built to come back online and keep the power flowing when it matters most. Mesa’s engines may not be built to battle robots from the future, but they do share something with the T-800, and that is unwavering reliability. Like the Terminator, our generator engines are designed to handle demanding conditions and perform again and again. Anyone can build an engine that starts once. In fact, many manufacturers are successful at doing exactly that. The real challenge is building an engine that starts thousands of times

Built Like Frankenstein, Engineered Like Mesa

Reading Time: 3 minutesHave you ever seen or read one of the many takes on Frankenstein? You know the classic tale of Dr. Frankenstein, creating the monster as a way to defy the natural order of the universe from an assortment of cobbled together body parts? Mesa’s original engine is much like that, but instead of grave digging, our original engineers were out there hunting for mechanical parts that would come to make up the original proprietary 22L generators that Mesa became known for in the oil fields of Texas, Wyoming, and Colorado. Instead of defying the natural order of the universe, Mesa was simply defying loss of power and instead of a monster, it was a beast of an engine that could be the backbone of every generator out in the field. It’s Alive! Our original engineers, Chris Piasecki and Rich King, started out of a fabrication shop in Casper, Wyoming. The shop was non-insulated (which if you know anything about Casper in the winter, it was probably closer to an ice box than a shop) and only held room for a

We Bulit an Engine

Reading Time: 3 minutesWhen an individual becomes a parent, one of the most rewarding aspects of the job is witnessing the “firsts.” First steps, first taste of ice cream, first time riding a bike, and first tooth to name a few. The best memories end up lodged in your mind and many times it is the funny moments that stick. The toddler years are particularly humorous as they are essentially wobbling little people with no filter. Of course, just being around to watch your children become grown-up humans with their own free will is rewarding in itself. Mesa has had kind of the same trajectory, although our parenting is limited to engines and generators. Maybe not as humorous when things go wrong but rewarding, nonetheless. Back when Mesa was founded, we had big ideas and the sheer power of will, all in a shop with no heat in the dead of winter. Twelve years later we offer various natural gas generator configurations, dedicated switch gear, and engines. All our equipment is designed here in the USA, we did not slap our name on

Do Mesa Engines Have an EPA Certification?

Reading Time: 4 minutesWe don’t give much thought to vehicle emissions anymore. They are like Netflix, most of us don’t even know that we have them until the bill comes. Depending on where you live, vehicle emissions might be more of a reality for you. For unknown reasons, I tend to drive older vehicles, the kind with crank windows and doors that you need to unlock with an actual key. I wonder how many people out there have never unlocked their vehicle that way? As a result of my propensity for unreliable vehicles, emissions test time is a hit or miss prospect for me. Much like English class, I always wonder if I am going to pass this time around. Like my junker vehicles, natural gas generators are not exempt from emissions standards. Federal emissions standards must apply – just like they do on my old Jeep. Public response to emissions testing and emissions regulations in general are, like anything these days, divided. Regardless, state and federal governments require engines of all configurations to conform to emissions standards during use. Like it or

Mesa Natural Gas Engines: More Power, Made Here

Reading Time: 3 minutesAt Mesa Power Solutions we have several gearheads on staff. From the casual observer to the sit-down-shut-up-‘n-hang-on race car builder, a love of engines is a passion we all seem to share. Now, we are not ripping down the road in 10-second Hondas and Camaros. The closest we get to that adrenaline rush is when the GPS “arrival time” drops by one minute. (Win!) No, we tend to keep the racing to the spec sheet around here, although there are rumors of clandestine desk chair drags out behind the building on weekends. (Allegedly of course.) Ready For Something Entirely New? Mesa is one of the few natural gas generator companies in North America to develop and bring to market a brand-new engine. What would cause us to make the leap into the extremely competitive world of engine design and manufacture? We take great pride in creating a superior product built to the “Mesa Standard.” Internally, we guide our decisions based on this concept. All of our products reflect the exceptional employees at the heart of this organization, and we think

Maximizing Productivity and Quality: A Day in the Machine Shop

Reading Time: 4 minutesStep into our machine shop and witness the carefully orchestrated processes that drive productivity and ensure the delivery of top-quality remanufactured heads for engines. Join us and our highly qualified personnel, as we take you on a journey through a typical day, where safety, precision, and meticulous attention to detail shape the success of our operations. Morning JSA and Small Team Meeting: The day begins with a crucial morning Job Safety Analysis (JSA) session, involving the teams from both the Machine Shop and the MERF (Mesa Engine Rebuild Facility) team Safety takes precedence as potential hazards and concerns are discussed to create a safe working environment. Following the JSA, the small team gathers to align goals and expectations, fostering effective communication and maximizing productivity for the day ahead. Rotating Stations and Disassembly: To maintain engagement and promote skill diversity, our team members rotate through various stations. This practice cultivates a dynamic workforce capable of performing multiple tasks. Skilled technicians break down heads at the disassembly station, expertly removing springs, valves, spring shims, aluminum coolant plugs, and seats. This initial step
