Remember the Death Star?
Yeah, that “small moon” designed by the Empire to destroy planets?
The Death Star was essentially a sovereign, standalone outpost in the middle of space.
Way off grid.
It can make one wonder what they did to generate power out there. Did they rent? Was a microgrid set up in the basement? What kind of fuel powered the electrical generation equipment? And ultimately, why didn’t they put a rain cap on the exhaust port?
My money is on natural gas generators providing power because all it took was one missile, down an exhaust port the size of a Wamp rat, to ignite the whole thing into a ball of flame and sparks. In the vacuum of space, no less.
Natural gas is the most logical fuel source for powering the Death Star, as its clean burning characteristics would be compliant with imperial emissions regulations. Ultimately it led to its downfall, well, that and the ability of Luke Skywalker to guide missiles with his mind.
So, what are the similarities between the Death Star and a data center?
When world domination is the goal, you need to BYOP – Bring Your Own Power.
Let’s say you have an AI data center in the middle of Kansas. You are not going to be destroying planets or anything, just preparing to take over the world with artificial intelligence.
Power is a big concern, and most current power grids are not equipped to handle data center-level power demand on the infrastructure. The bottom line is no amount of solar, or wind power is going to be able to keep up with the coming demand of AI on our power grid. In fact, the industry is already shifting to a BYOP – Bring Your Own Power ethos when planning new data centers.
At this point, the natural gas generator industry is just trying to keep up with the demand.
Long praised for their ability to provide clean power to remote locations or supplement where shore power is not dependable, natural gas generators are the obvious choice.
At Mesa Power Solutions, we are developing the next generation of data center solutions.
Where others are trying to catch up, we are in our next round of innovations. From new, more efficient and powerful 22L powerplants, and modular generator solutions to fit any footprint, we can provide the power at scale to power any data center.
The Mesa standard is to provide responsible, reliable power and with the current data center push worldwide, we have developed a new power delivery concept called the PowerYard. With the PowerYard, a wide range of power will be available utilizing the versatility of natural gas. Designed to be modular, and adaptable to the demand of a fully functioning data center.
But what if you do not need the large power infrastructure needed for a data center?
Mesa generators are available in a wide variety of mobile and stationary configurations. Our Powercore line of stationary generators is designed for either emergency standby or prime power applications. They are quiet enough to operate in a residential neighborhood and powerful enough to keep your businesses lights on when it matters most.

No matter if your goal is to generate the next evolution of AI, provide backup power for your business, or take over the galaxy, you are going to have to BYOP, and Mesa has the power solution for your needs.
